The Acting Chairman of the Benue State Internal Revenue Service, BIRS, Emmanuel Agema, ACTI, on the 7th of August, 2023, at the Transcorp Hilton in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, attended the 153rd meeting of the Joint Tax Board, JTB.
The Chairman who was introduced at the meeting by the Chairman of the Board, who also is the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, Muhammad Nami, joined the Chairmen of other states IRS in the country in deliberations on various issues of taxation in the country.
At the end of the Board’s meeting, some adoptions and resolutions were made and a communique issued and read to the press by the Board’s Chairman.
The communique among other resolutions reiterated the utilisation of technology and digital solutions towards ensuring transparency of tax administration processes, and optimization processes of revenue for all tiers of government, in more efficient, more effective, more inclusive, and more sustainable ways.
It also called for the continuation of the implementation of the renewal of Proof of Ownership Certificate (PoC) due to its critical security implications for the management of the motor vehicle administration database in the country.
The Theme of the meeting was “Harmonisation and codification of taxes at the National and Sub-National levels: Key to achieving a tax friendly environment in Nigeria.”
